400D Campaign Update #4!

Wow! Our 400D campaign has been a rush. We’ve been able to reach our goals of 35mm, 120, 4x5, and 10,000 backers — which unlocked the last stretch goal, 220 film! This is all because of you — all of our amazing backers! We know you are itching to get this film and load it into your cameras. We’re working around the clock to make sure that we can begin shipping our initial batch to our early bird backers starting this month. 

If you missed it from our last update, in order for us to pursue making 400D in 220, we need the community to show us how many backers want 220 film. This helps us justify the resources, time, and training it takes to make this film format available again. We have made some good progress towards the final goal, but with 4 days left, we need your help spreading the word and helping us get to 12,500 backers!

220 format was discontinued for color film back in 2015, but as the analog renaissance continues to surge, we wanted to bring back something that medium format enthusiasts would love. 220 film is similar to 120 film, but just more of it. It’s double the length which means you get double the frames, whether you shoot 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, or 6x9.

 

At this moment we are 86% of the way to hitting our 220 goal, with 4 days left in our campaign. So if you prefer shooting medium format and want more frames in your favorite cameras, back the campaign so we can all make 220 film an available format again.


CAMPAIGN UPDATES:

• We've sold out of a considerable amount of our tiers so far! All of our Early Bird levels are gone, as is NIKKI BLUE EYES, LUCKY 7, and THE COUSINS. Even though these tiers are sold out, you can still pre-order 400D 35mm, 120, 4x5, and even 220 through other tiers.

• We have 2 tiers for backing 400D in 220: a twin pack which contains 2 rolls of 220 and a 5-roll “ProPack" which has 5 rolls of 220, as well as an exclusive limited edition JCH "400D Violet" Film Case to hold those 5 rolls.
  
  If we are successful in reaching our goal for 220, we expect to complete testing and begin the manufacturing process in the fourth quarter of 2022, with expectations for fulfillment beginning in December 2022. If lack of demand or development roadblocks prevent 220 from being a viable option, CineStill will provide backers of these 220 tiers with double the amount of 120 rolls in return. Expect updates once the campaign is completed and fulfillment on other formats have begun.

• Speaking of fulfillment, like we said above, we will begin shipping to early bird backers this month. Early Bird 35mm will begin shipping first, with Early Bird 120 to follow shortly after. Additionally, we are beginning the process of moving into production on the next run of 400D (!!!) We expect to begin fulfilling the first batch of non-early bird orders this summer (hopefully in July). We will continue to send out updates to backers once the campaign is over, which will include manufacturing updates, special Film Maker opportunities, and fulfillment progress, so be sure to keep an eye out for emails from us!

• If you backed at any of the levels that include Film Maker benefits, those benefits will be unlocked at the culmination of the campaign. We will send you an email with instructions on how to access your account.

• We have only have 4 days left in our crowdfunding campaign to reach our goal of being able to produce 220 film. Help spread the word! And there still is a limited supply left of 400D enamel pins for orders containing multiple tiers.

• Our first few production rolls of 400Dynamic in 35mm arrived at the CineStill HQ! So we loaded up our cameras to test out these fresh rolls — and made a video to share some of the results, as taken by the CineStill team. Check it out:
